Biography

In 1830, Michael Roberts lives in Cabell County, Virginia. He is listed on the census as the sole male in his household. He lives with one women, likely Susan. Both are between 20 and 30 years old.[1] Living next door is Isaac Roberts - one young married couple and one older married couple; could the younger couple be Edmund and Sarah?

In 1830, Michael pays 24 cents in taxes for three horses.[2]

In 1832, Michael was granted 220 acres of land at Trace Fork, Cabell County, VA. Sims index says Michael G. Roberts, et al. Book 2, page 350.

July 10, 1833, Michael G. Roberts and Isaac Ashworth were granted land in Cabell County, Virginia.

October 2, 1834, Michael is presented with two certificates of land registration by the US federal government.

On October 27, 1834, " Michael G. Roberts and Susannah his wife of the County of Hancock and state of Indiana" sell to John Ashworth for $1.50. The land sold was originally part of a 220-acre parcel patented to Michael Roberts and Isacc Ashworth. The parcel measured approximately 110 acres. A Morgan McTway, justice of the peace, accepted the signatures of Michael and Susan, confirming that Susan signed of her own free will.[3]

In April of 1835, Michael had moved to Hancock County, Indiana and received another certificate of land registration from the US federal government. Description of his land: The west half of the South West quarter of Section Twenty two in Township Seventeen north of range seven east in the District of lands subject to sale at Indianapolis, Indiana containing Eighty Acres.

On January 2, 1837, several family members sold a parcel of land to Anderson Roberts and an unnamed Roberts. Those family members were " John Ashworth and Nancy his wife, Isaac Ashworth and Aisley his wife, James Roberts, Judy Roberts, James Layme and Jenny his wife, Harrison Roberts and Susan his wife, Edmund Roberts and Sarah his wife and Michael G Roberts and Susan his wife."[4]

Sarah's brother, James Denison filed the paperwork in Cabell County for his two sisters. The power of attorney from the State of Indiana in Hancock County states:

"Before me James Denison a justice of the peace within and for said County personally came Michael G Roberts and Susan Roberts, Edmund Roberts and Sarah Roberts the grantor names in the above deed of conveyance and being by me examined concerning the same acknowledged it to be their voluntary deed for the uses and purpose therein mentioned and the said Susan Roberts and Sarah Roberts the wifes of the said Michael G. Roberts and Edmund Roberts having been by me examined separate and apart from their husbands as requested by law touching the above deed declared that they signed, sealed and delivered the same of their own voluntary free will and without any coercion of compulsion of their husbands and that they thereby relinquished all their right and claim to dower in the aforesaid premises in testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 2d. day of January 1837."[4]

In 1840, Michael G. Roberts lives in Green Township of Hancock County, Indiana. He is listed as being between 20 and 30 years old. He is living with two girls under the age of 5 and with woman between 20 and 30 years old (Susan).

In 1850, Michael's family is still living in Green Township, Hancock County, Indiana. However, his wife Orlena is listed as head of household. Therefore, he likely died before this date.[5]

Possible brother of [Roberts-14576 | Edmund Roberts]. If so, then two brothers would have married two sisters.
