On August 30, 1842, John Roberts was one of six heirs of Reuben Roberts, Sr., who sold two hundred acres of land of their deceased father.

On May 27, 1856, John McKelvey Cotton, nephew of John Roberts, visited his uncle John Roberts in Monroe County, Mississippi. He reported that his Uncle John Roberts and family were doing well, except for John Roberts Jr., who was suffering from rheumatic pain.
