Research Notes

NOTES from The Generations of Reuben

Nancy Roberts left no graphic records of herself until after she was married. In making application for the recovery of his relapsed Revolutionary War pension on October 8, 1820, Reuben Roberts Sr stated that he had two single daughters, one age 22 and another age 21. The youngest daughter, though not named by Reuben, was Nancy. Among other things stated by Reuben was that his youngest daughter (Nancy) was suffering with a prolonged leg injury, which prevented her from being able to work. Nothing more is known of her until she married in 1828.

Nancy attended the public sale of her deceased father's personal property on October 4, 1841. She purchased articles in the amount of five dollars and seventy cents. Nancy was one of Reuben's six children who inherited one sixth of two hundred acres of his land on August 30, 1842.

Research Notes Regarding Husbands

Nancy Roberts did not marry Julius Webb. The information in this first paragraph is incorrect.

When Nancy Roberts was born in 1799 in Warren, Tennessee, her father, Reuben, was 48, and her mother, Mary, was 40. She married Julius Webb and they had one daughter together. She then married James Perry in 1828. She died in 1850 at the age of 51. (Information entered by Judyann Kelley Townsend when profile created - no sources provided.)

Nancy did not marry Julius Webb. There are two family trees on ancestry.com that state Julius Webb married Nancy Roberts about 1816 prior to her marriage to James Perry in 1828. This information is incorrect. At that time, Julius was still married to his wife, Hannah Watkins. He remained married to Hannah until his death in 1834. I really don't think Julius was married to two women at the same time. There is also no evidence for said marriage or for an extramarital relationship that produced a child. Julius Webb is being removed as husband of Nancy Roberts. Strutton-11 16:52, 20 July 2018 (UTC) And now I have had to remove him again. Please do not add Julius Webb as husband of Nancy Roberts. Nancy Roberts is being removed as spouse from Julius Webb. Julius is reported to have had an extra-marital affair about 1816 with Nancy Roberts while still married to Hannah Watkins. Julius and Nancy were never married and should not be listed as spouses.
