William Lantern Robertson was born on 6 Sep 1831 in Louisiana. He was the son of Ely J & Elizabeth Robertson.

William Lantern Robertson married Rebecca N Morgan (1826–1927). Rebecca was the daughter of James Morgan & Lavinia Durbin. The couple had at least eight children Nancy Lavina Robertson Evans (1852–1937), Thomas Hardy Robertson (1853–1922), James Howell Robertson (1856–1926), Henry Walker Robertson (1859–1936), David Turner Robertson (1862–1929), Virginia L. Robertson Williams (1865–1897), Eva Jane Robertson Smart (1869–1910) and Edward Tyson Robertson (1873–1950).
