He was born in Dunedin, New Zealand, the son of William Robertson and Wilhelmina Bear Mason[1].

He married Gladys Mabel Gear[1] in 1910[4].
In 1911 he was a medical practitioner, living in Johnsonville, Wellington Suburbs, New Zealand.[5]

Served with the 1st NZEF in WW1, attaining the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the New Zealand Medical Corps.
He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (Military Division) in the 1919 Birthday Honours.[6].

In WW2 he served in New Zealand as Senior Medical Officer of Waiouru Military Camp. [1] from 1st October 1940 to 10th October 1942. Following illness, he was transferred to the Reserve List[7] until his retirement in 1948.
On 1st January 1946 he was appointed Commander of the Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem[8].
In 1948 he lived at Ilchester, Te Horo, Manawatu[7].
He died on 3rd July 1956[9].
Birth. Searching the New Zealand BDM produces an exact match on a certificate from 1879[10]. But his army record states 25th August 1882[9][7][1].
