Biography

George Oliver Robertson was the second child of George and Kezia Robertson of North Adelaide. He was born on 28 March 1868. George married Lilla Cox at her family home at Hampstead on 15 February 1888. He was one month short of 21 and Lilla was 21 years old. They made their home in a new Villa house in Fourth Avenue St Peters. Lilla Robertson gave birth to their first child, a daughter, Muriel Lilla on 10 June 1889. Twins; Clement Oliver and Clytie Estelle were born on 23 March 1891 followed by Marjorie in 1893 and Ernest Frank in 1901. George was employed as an Accountant at Laughton and Co, a leading Stock and Station Company in SA. He also took an interest in Local Government and was elected to St Peters Council in the early 1900s. George continued to prosper and passed his Commercial Examinations at Adelaide University in 1905. He was awarded his Degree Diploma of Commerce in 1908. George served as Auditor on several Public Organisations. George registered his first Motor Car on 25 November 1919. It was a "Grant" Reg no 4445. George and Lilla purchased a block of land with an old cottage near Stirling in the Adelaide Hills and they used it for holidays etc. In the 1930s George purchased a powerful Vauxhall 6 Cylinder car to more easily drive up to the cottage at Stirling. George died at the cottage in 1942. He was privately cremated at West Terrace Crematorium and his ashes were scattered privately. Lilla also died at the cottage. She died in 1947.
