He fought with the A Coy 15th Bn (1st Central Ontario Regt). The second Battle of Ypres began in April 1915 during which the Germans released poison gas into the allied lines north of Ypres, this was the first time gas had been used by either side.
James was Killed in Action (Gas) and mentioned on the YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium with a death date of 24 April 1915. The Menin Gate Memorial names more than 54000 officers and men who have no known grave, [2]
