Biography

Elizabeth “Betsy” was born in 1769 in Camden, Lincoln, Maine to parents George Robinson and Lucy (Unknown) Robinson. She married widower John Craighead Sr in 1799 in Bedford, Virginia (as his third wife). They had one daughter together, Lucinda “Lucy” Craighead English (1801-1851).

She passed away in 1839.

Will of her husband John Craighead Sr [It lists his wife and 12 children.]:
“ Will of John Craghead who died in 1808: Wife: Bettsy; Children: John, Molley Allen (this is Mary) wf of Thomas ALLEN, Susannah Key wf of George KEY, Nancy Haile wf of James L HAILE, Jane Haile wf of James T HAILE --maybe same as Jas L, Robert Craighead, Dicy Maxey wf of Hale MAXEY, Easter Burdell wf of John BURRELL/BURDITT, William Craighead, Timothy Craighead, Isaiah Craighead, Lucy Robinson Craighead. wf of James ENGLISH”…… (Also listed is Little Jerry who is to go to wife Bettsy and then to daughter Lucy).”….. Per his Will, “Guardianship of his orphan daughter, Lucy R(obinson), was given to Betty Craighead (her mother). He left to his “wife Betty and all of his children 200 pounds each, and made the extra provision that daughter Lucy should have her schooling out of the estate”. ),……Will, Franklin Co VA, Bk 1, p 57, Franklin Co VA, Mar 5 1810.
