Biography
Henry was baptised on 21 December 1828 at Littledean by parents Henry and Esther. Henry was a labourer. [1] When he was 10 years old, in 1838 his only sibling, younger brother Nathaniel, died aged 5.
Henry is never found with his parents, who split up. His father had mental health issues. In 1841 at the age of 14 Henry was living in Cheltenham, apparently in his own household, although others were living in the same building. [2]
Henry went into service. In 1851 he was a Footman at Frampton Lodge, Frampton on Severn, in the household of the Clifford Family. Henry Clifford was a Magistrate. [3] In 1858 Henry married Elizabeth Mills. Their marriage took place in St George, Hanover Square in London. [4] In 1860 son Henry William was born in Cheltenham. [5]
In 1861 Elizabeth and Henry were Housekeeper and Butler respectively in the household of Patrick Wybouth, a 'Fundholder'. Their little son also lived there. [6]
Henry and Elizabeth stopped being servants and ran a lodging house in Westminster, London by the time their daughter Emily Elizabeth was born in 1862. [7] In 1871 They were running their 'Private Hotel' in George Street,
Westminster (St George Hanover Square), and also had daughter Isabel aged 1. [8]
By 1901 Henry was widowed and he, along with Henry William were living with daughter Emily Elizabeth (now Rummily) and her family. Her husband was a Glass and China Merchant. Henry was 'living on own means'. They lived at West Ham, Essex. [9]
Henry died on 29 April 1903. He had been living at 33 Hampton Road, Forest Gate, Essex. Initially Probate went to his son Henry William Robinson, a Grocer and his effects totalled 3,398 Pounds Sterling 10 shillings and 1 pence. Date: 8th June 1903. [10] Then in 1916 another record states probate went to Frederick William Ashley, a Judges Clerk but wasn't granted until 1916. His effects then were 630 Pounds Sterling. [11]
