Biography

Saint was born in 1656, daughter of Thomas and Mary Robinson of Guilford, New Haven, Connecticut [1]. She married Bezaleel Lattimer in 1680 [2][3]. They had two documented children, Jonathan and Bathsheba, named in the administration of Bezaleel's estate. After Bezaleel's death she married a second time, to William Tryon, in 1688 (see Research Notes) [4] and they had one documented son, Abial Tryon, and a daughter Rachel Tryon. Saint died in 1711 in Wethersfield [5].

Research Notes

Records do not clearly indicate the maiden name of her mother and both Mary (Payne) Robinson and Mary (Wells) Robinson have been suggested.

Her first name is recorded as Saint in "Families of Early Guilford" which included Robinson family records but many women of that time were called Saint and Sarah interchangeably.

Probate of first husband's estate: Inventory on File. Invt. œ42-17-00. Taken 31 May, 1688, by Jno Wells, Jno Chester.

Legatees: Jona[than]: 6-3/4 years old, and Bethsheba 3 months old.

Court document re William Tryon and Saint Lattimer: Whereas Saint Tryon complains that her husband William Tryon hath fraudently conveyed away from her a Writing made between them before marriage, where by she is greatly injured and prays relief from this Court, she producing two Evidences that there was a writing made but not signed until after marriage, viz, the next morning, this Court do order that the sd. William Tryon shall have the Improvement of the Estate of Bezaleel Lattimore, Decd, provided he maintain the two Children of the sd. Lattimore; or only 1-3 part thereof (which is his wife's part of the sd. Estate), and the two children with their part of the Estate be put into their Guardians Hands, viz, Thomas Wickham and Ebenezer Deming; and that he shall have the Improvement of four acres of Land purchased by her [Saint] after the decease of her husband Lattimore, the right to remain in her to dispose at her death, the sd. Tryon consenting to the same.[6]

Guardianship of Saint Lattimer's children: Upon the request of Saint Tryon, this Court appoint Cornet Thomas Wickham and Ebenezer Deming to be Guardians to Jonathan and Bathsheba Lattimore, Children of Bezaleel Lattimore, late of Wethersfield, Decd.[7]

Probate of Saint Tryon: Whereas the Court of Probate did grant Adms. upon the Estate of Bezaleel Lattimore, late of Wethersfield, Decd, to Saint Lattimore, Widow of sd. Decd, and the sd. Saint Lattimore neglecting in her life time to finish her Adms., and she being now dead, this Court grant Adms. to Josiah Atwood, son-in-law to the sd. Decd, on the remaining unadministered Estate of sd. Bezaleel Lattimore, Decd.[8]

This Court order the Dist. of a parcel of Land in Wethersfield granted by the Town, being the 110th Draught drawn by Saint Lattimore, late of Wethersfield, Decd, as followeth: To the heirs of Jonathan Lattimer, Decd, son of the aforesd. Bezaleel Lattimer, Decd, 2/3 part thereof. To Bathshua [Bathsheba] Atwood, wife of Josiah Atwood, of sd. Wethersfield, and daughter of the aforesd. Bezzaleel Lattimer, 1/3 part thereof. And whereas the sd. Saint Lattimer in the time of her Widowhood bought 4 acres of Land of Samuel Bowman of Wethersfield and died intestate, this Court order a Dist. of sd. 4 acres: To the Heirs of Jonathan Lattimer a double part, and to the other two children of the sd. Saint Lattimer, Decd, to Bathshua Atwood and Abial Tryon, to each a single share. And [this court] appoint David Goodrich, Nathaniel Burnham sen. & Joshua Robbins distributors.[9]

Report of the Dist. by Nathaniel Burnham and Jonathan Burnham.[10]

The "marriage record" often quoted for the marriage of Saint Lattimer and Willian Tryon give a date of 17 Jan 1788/9 which is actually the date of a court document regarding her complaint that William had "fraudently conveyed away" a prenuptial agreement. They were married prior to this date but after the probate records of her first husband's estate 7 Jun 1788.
