Guthrie Center - Services for former State Rep. Samuel Ernest "Sam" Robinson of Guthrie Center were July 18 at teh Guthrie Center United Methodist Church. Robinson, 90, died July 15 at the Guthrie Center County Hospital. Burial was in Union Cemetery in Guthrie Center.
He was born 7 Oct 1894, near Preemption, IL, to James Ira and Martha Lucy (Johnson) Robinson. In the spring of 1902, he moved with his family to rural Yale in Dodge Township. He was educated in that area, graduating from Guthrie Center High School at Panora in 1914. He served with the US Army during WWI in France. He married Bessie L Miller, 11 Dec 1920, at the Methodist Parsonage in Guthrie Center. They established their home in rural Redfield, then moved later to a farm near Stuart, Casey & Guthrie Center.
In 1946, the Robinsons retired from active farming and moved to a small acreage in Guthrie Center. He raised purebred Durec-Jersey hogs, was a dealer for a seed corn company, had an insurance business and servied for many years as a justice of the peace. Robinson represented Guthrie County as a representative to the state legislature for 4 terms, from 1957-1964. He served on many committees during his term in office.
