Biography

Retta was born in 1869. Retta Robinson married John Wesley Abicht in 1894 in Pleasants County, West Virginia. They were blessed with three sons and lost William at age three. The family operated a Grocery Store in Marietta according the Robinson Family and the City Directory of Marietta. Retta died of the flu in 1917 and her funeral was Water McClure's first sermon.

Her father Samuel Thomas was a veteran of the Civil War on the side of the Confederacy, this story comes the old Rootsweb the family story on dates of family holidays his musical sons would "Dixie" and Yankee ones.

Helping grandfather Raymond empty trash and brush on the Longrun farm one day (1964) "my mother was buried here". I asked my father (Forest) about the Robinson's his response was "I didn't know those dam people". He did know his cousin Retta Abicht was named after her grandmother.

All of her grandparents were born in Maryland and one of her relatives was best man at my parents wedding. One of her brothers lived in Salem Washington, Ohio and two lived in Williamstown, WV.

Her grandparents lived in Salem Washington, Ohio about 1840, her mother was Susan Kesselring Robinson, my father's best man 1946 was his second cousin Karl Kesselring.
