Biography

Eli was born on July 16, 1831 in Dudleytown, Jackson County, Indiana and a son of Jesse Robinson and Nancy Scott. Eli married Sarah Emilene Edwards on July 14, 1852 in Jackson County, Indiana In 1860, he and his family lived in Grassy Fork Township, Jackson County, Indiana.and before the next census was taken, the Civil War exploded. Eli C. Robinson enlisted in the service of the United States at Indianapolis, County of Marvin, State of Indiana in February 1865 as a Captain in Company C in the 145th Regiment of Indiana, to serve one year and was honorably discharged at Cartersville, State of Georgia in July of 1865. While in the service aforesaid and in line of his duty received an abdomen injury which he received a pension of $10.00 per month. He stated the following: "I was ruptured on the right side by over fatigue while on the march. I was never in the hospital, was excused from duty and laid in my tent at Cartersville, Georgia, was treated by Dr. Beck in latter part of June and first part of July 1965". [1] The next census after the Civil War, Eli and family were still residing in Grassy Fork Township. Eli and Emilene had ten children, six sons, William Wells; Gabriel Mills; James Edwards; Charles Edgar; Osker Everett and Harry Eli and four daughters, Mary Ann; Nancy Lilley, who died young and buried in Jackson County, Indiana; Laura Bell and Rachel, who also died young and buried in Indiana. He passed away on March 9, 1884 and buried in the Fredonia City Cemetery in Fredonia, Wilson County, Kansas. [2]
