Biography

Isaac Robinson was born in Ireland in 1736 or 1737. He was married in 1757, and on April 22, 1765, he took up land in Manor of Manske, 30,000 acres that William Penn set aside around Marsh Creek in Pennsylvania.

During the Revolutionary War, Isaac served as Pvt. under Capt. Abraham Furrey in 6th Batt. York Co., Pennsylvania Militia. Depreciation pay July 16 to Sept. 16, 1781.[1]

In 1778, Isaac Robinson was supervisor of Hamiltonban Township, the original township of York Co., Pennsylvania. He paid for wagon hire Aug. 4, 1779 by Quartermaster depot at York, and owned 194 acres in 1783. Isaac and his wife Jane are buried at Marsh Creek Cemetery, aka Sanders Cemetery, Highland Township, Adams Co., Pennsylvania.[2]

Taxables 1783, Isaac Robinson, Hamiltonban Twp. 194 acres, 1 house, 2 outhouses, 9 inhabitants, 7 horned cattle, 4 horses, and 1 sheep. (Isaac Robinson paid 9 pounds for wagon hire Aug. 4, 1779, by QM Depot at York[3]

Populartion of Hamilton Ban Twp. in 1800 was 1679[4] Under date March10, 1789 a petition was presented to president and supreme council of the state of PA, signed by Isaac Robinson (and others) asking for resurvey of "Carroll's Delight." Isaac Robinson lived in a division NEAR Carroll's Delight.

ISAAC ROBINSON (Robeson) name appears as Private on payroll of Captain Abraham Furrey's Co. of York Co. Militia from July-16 to Sept-16-1781 in the War of the Revolution.

From Census— Isaac Robinson was living in York Co. Penna. In 1790 with two sons under sixteen years wife and two daughters.

Isaac Robinson was born about 1735 died 2-1796 was married to Jane Robinson 1757, their home was Hamiltonbann Twp. York Co., Pa., their daughter Catherine Robinson married William Smith 8-25-1783, their son Isaac married Ann Elliott Mitchell 9-5-1814 and their Son William Married Nancy Douglass 11-1-1838, their son William Addison Smith married Minnie Jan Smith 11-7-1878, they had a daughter Lucy Smith who is a member of the Juliana White Chapter D.A.R.

Isaac Robinson's name also appears upon a Depreciation pay list of men in the services from York Co. The will of Isaac Robinson was probated March 8, 1796 at York Co., Pa. March 10,1789 a petition was presented to the Supreme Council of Pa. signed by Isaac Robinson, Robert Smith, Job Buchanan and four others asking for a survey of Carroll's Delight, the survey which had been made 1741 was faulty.[8]

"Under date March 10,1789, a petition was presented to the president and supreme council of the State of Pennsylvania, signed by Isaac Robinson, William Waugh, James Brice, William Miller, David Blyth and Ebenezer Finley, asking for a resurvey of "Caroll's Delight." This set forth that in 1741 Archibald Beard, John Withrow, James McGinley and Jeremiah Lochery purchased of Charles Carroll 5,000 acres, which were taken up and surveyed years before this purchase, but were subsequently found to be in Hamiltonban and Franklin Townships in Pennsylvania. The petition asked for a settlement of the question. In 1762 caveats were entered in the land office against granting warrants for these lands, whether in Hamiltonban or Franklin Townships...[9]
