Biography

Mary was born about 1787 in Cumberland County, Virginia. [1] Her parents were Jones Robinson and Charlotte Holland. [2]

On 4 January 1806 in Cumberland County, Virginia, Polly married Jonas Meador.[3] [4]

Their first child, a son, Jehue Meador, was born about 1807. [5]

Around the year 1808, Jonas, Mary and children followed his brother Joseph Meador and family to Tennessee. Joseph's family included his wife Charlotte, and their four children along with Judy and Patsy Robinson, Charlotte's two youngest daughters from her first marriage. [6]

Jonas Meador, along with his brother Joseph are recorded in tax records of Williamson County Tennessee as early as 1808. [7] The brothers appear in subsequent years of the tax records up to and including the year 1819. Jonas is consistently recorded with one poll but no property. [8]

Jonas appears in Williamson County, Tennessee census records for 1820. In addition to Jonas and Polly, the household included two male children under 10, one male child between 10 and 15, two female children under ten, and one female child between 16 and 25.[9]

At the time the 1830 census was taken in Williamson County, Tennessee, Jonas Meador's household includes himself and wife Polly along with seven children under 20, three males and four females. [10]

Jonas and family are still in Williamson County at the time of the 1840 census. The household consists of Jonas, Polly and one son between age 15 and 19. [11]

After the death of her husband, Polly is listed in the home of their youngest son, Jones R Meador in the 1850 census records of Williamson County, Tennessee. [12]

This was the last record found for Polly. Her date and place of death are unknown.

Research Notes

Mary and Jonas Meador appear to have been the parents of at least seven children. The four son have been identified, but the female children need more research. One female candidate is Lockey Meador who married first William R Gordon in 1824 and later a Gracey. Her age fits for the female listed between 16 and 25 in the 1820 census. Family records show her born between 1802 and 1806 in Virginia. If she is indeed the daughter of Jonas Meador, this would indicate that he may have had a marriage prior to Polly Robinson.
