Biography

Margaret Phoebe Robinson was the daughter of James Robinson and his wife, Catherine (Howell) Robinson, both also born in New Castle County, Delaware.

On March 3, 1741, "Phoebe" Robinson married Robert Boggs, a recent immigrant of Scottish descent who had been born in 1712 in Londonderry, Ulster, Northern Ireland, under British rule. The couple married at White Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, White Clay Creek Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware. They had the following children:[1]

  1. James (First) BOGGS b: 16 JAN 1742 in Mill Creek, New Castle Co., Delaware; d: before 1747
  2. William BOGGS b: 15 SEP 1743 in New Castle Co., Delaware
  3. Robert II BOGGS b: 9 SEP 1746 in New Castle Co., Delaware
  4. James BOGGS b: 10 SEP 1747 in New Castle Co., Delaware
  5. Agnes BOGGS b: 4 FEB 1749 in New Castle Co., Delaware
  6. Elizabeth BOGGS b: 11 FEB 1751 in New Castle Co., Delaware
  7. Benjamin BOGGS b: 12 MAR 1753 in New Castle Co., Delaware
  8. Moses BOGGS b: 12 DEC 1756 in New Castle Co., Delaware
  9. John BOGGS b: 11 JAN 1759 in New Castle Co., Delaware
  10. Joseph BOGGS b: 2 JAN 1761 in New Castle Co., Delaware

Six of their sons, all but Joseph the youngest, served in the American Army during the Revolutionary War. They were at Valley Forge and later at the Thames in 1812. William and Benjamin were killed as secret couriers in 1779. James Boggs, took part as a private; the others were officers. Their father, Robert Boggs, was a Colonel in the Delaware militia despite being over 60 years old. He organized supplies for the defense of Philadelphia and Baltimore. Robert Boggs II had already left Delaware for Kentucky (then part of Virginia) so he served as a Captain in the Virginia Militia on the Frontier. [2]

Margaret Phoebe (Robinson) Boggs died on June 5, 1801, at the family farm/plantation in Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware, USA.[3]

Her husband survived her. He died in Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle Co., Delaware, USA, on April 2, 1804. Shortly after his death, the youngest of their sons sold the house and farm and joined his brothers on the western frontier in the fledgling state of Kentucky where their family were among its early pioneers.
