Abbrev: Source #272 Text: Martha Robinson had been raised a Quaker. Her first marriage was to Peter Rich on April 24, 1742, in Nottingham Friends Meeting in Chester r County, PA. Peter died about 1747. Martha's second marriage to Tobias Long [about January 1748] was noted in the Nottingham Monthly Friends Meeting minutes that she "hath been lately married out of unity with Friends to a man named Long." A year later, in January 1749, the meeting minutes noted that "the Martha Long who offered a paper condemning her marriage out of unity about a year ago, appears to have been guilty of fornication when she offered the paper, she does not deny it." Two months later Nottingham Friends disowned her. Martha's maternal grandfather was Aaron Coppock, a Quaker. After immigrating to the USA from England, Aaron married his 2nd wife, Miriam Short in 1704 in Chichester, Chester Co., PA. In 1713, Aaron and & his second wife, Miriam, moved to NottinghamTownship in Chester Co ., PA near the Maryland border, where he filled the positions of elder, overseer, and finally minister of the Quakers Nottingham Meeting of F friends until his death in 1724 in Chester Co., PA. Martha's second husband, Tobias Long, was mentioned in Martha's father-in-law Joseph Rich's WILL in Chester Co., PA:(Joseph Rich died August 25, 1757) "...To my s on John, the remainder of my plantation. To son Peter's widow Martha, wife of Tobias Lang, five shillings...". (Joseph's son Peter Rich had died about 10 years earlier in 1747.) [ref. Johnny Long 7/23/2001.] Abbr ev: Source #1129 Text: Martha Robinson's father, John Robinson, was a Quaker who purchased a farm of 100 acres in West Nottingham Township, Chester County, PA in 1724. In John Robinson's WILL,s sons John and Aaron, and Martha and Mary
