FRANK NELSON ROBINSON.
The community was. saddened on Saturday by the news that the illness of Mr Frank Nelson Robinson, local manager of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agenoy' Company, had terminated fatally at an early hour of the morning. The sad event was unexpected, even by the deceased gentleman's nearest friends, and the news, therefore, came as a shock to the public Up till a short time ago Mr Robinson apparently enjoyed the best of health ; his confinement to the house commenced only a few weeks ago, and his friends were daily expecting to see him resume his business duties, He dies at the early age of 37 years, and- his removal from our midst at such a time of life is a matter of' the deepest regret, Deceased was the second son of Mr Thomaa Robinson, and a nephew of the late Hon. W. Robinson, of Cheviot, He was born in South Australia, and arrived m the Colony as a boy_ Having completed his education at Christ College, Christchurch, he joined the staff of . the New Zealand Shipping Coy, and was very quickly promoted to the management of the Oamaru branch, In 1887 he entered the service of the, Loan and Mercantile Company at Napier, and served that institution m several centres, being appointed to the management of the Blenheim branch m May, 1895. The sterling qualities of his character—his manliness, his probity, his fine disposition — gained him the esteem of everyone with whom he came into contact, and his demise has caused widespread concern In commercial circles Mr Robinson had a splendid reputation, being known as a business man of exceptional ability and integrity, and a most valued servant of the Loan and Mercantile Company, He was also one of our best citizens, and took a practical interest in the progress of the district and the welfare of the community, being connected with many public institutions and movements calculated to advance local affairs, Notably, he was Chairman of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association, the interests of which he has done much to promote, and he was on the directorate of the Wairau Freezing Company. He was ever ready, too, to encourage athletics, having been a noted athlete himself m his younger days. Deceased married a daughter of the late Mr W. J, Hamilton— who was at one time head of the Customs Department, and held other official positions m Christchurch ; and a young family of two sons and three daughters are bereaved of their father. A wide circle of friends deplore the death of Mr Robinson; and general and sincere sympathy will be extended to the widow and orphans m their affliction. The remains of deceased have been conveyed to the Hospital, and on Wednesday will be deported to Christchurch for interment there.[3]
