Biography

Meshach was born in 1795. He passed away in 1869. He married three times and was father of eight children.

"Meshach Rogers emigrated to Mississippi from South Carolina in 1822, and lived on the plantation where he first settled until his death in 1875. He was an industrious, energetic man, a lover of law and order, and a citizen who everyone respected. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church for half a century.

He was the son of Shadrach Rogers, a native of North Carolina, and a soldier of the Revolution who was noted for his bravery and courage and a high sense of honor."

Meshack lost two sons and one grandson during the civil war. George Benjamin Rodgers at Vicksburg, and Josiah Rogers died as a result of an injury received at the battle of Lovejoy near Atlanta. Zabud Meshack Rogers died as a result of a wound received at Lovejoy, near the town of Atlanta. Benjamin was buried at Vicksburg on the field of battle. Josiah is buried at the Meshack Rogers cemetary near Collins Missippi. Zabud is buried in Georgia.
