Biography

The Baptist Church/Chapel records show that Eusebius Joseph Rodway was born (or christened?) on July 21, 1812, at Wotton Under Edge, Gloucestershire, England, the son of Joseph and Anna Rodway.^[1]

In 1841, Eusebius Rodway, 25, was living in Melksham, Wiltshire, with the family of Joshua Russell, a Baptist Minister.^[2]

The marriage of Mary Fidler and Eusebius Joseph Rodway was registered in the Axbridge Registration District of Somerset, in the 3rd quarter of 1846.^[3]

In 1851, Eusebius J. Rodway (indexed as Redway) was 38 years old. He worked as a Baptist Minister at the Wadham St. Chapel. He was living at 71 High Street, 2 Cambridge Bldg., in Weston Super Mare, with his wife Maria, 25, and two children born in Weston Super Mare:^[4]

Eusebius J. Rodway (indexed as Redway) was 48 and his wife Maria was 34 when the 1861 census was taken. They were living in the Chapel House at Weston Super Mare, where Eusebius was a Baptist Minister. Eight children were living with them, all of whom were born at Weston Super Mare:^[5]

Maria Rodway, the first wife of Eusebius, died during the 3rd quarter of 1861, and her death was registered at Axbridge.^[6]

Louisa Mathews and Eusebius Joseph Rodway were married during the 3rd quarter of 1870. Their marriage was recorded in the Axbridge Registration District.^[7]

in 1871, Eusebius J. Rodway was living in the Chapel House on Wadham Street in Weston Super Mare, Somerset. He was 58 and a Baptist Minister, living with his wife Louisa, who was 29. this must be his second marriage, as his elder child is 24, too old for Louisa. The three children living with them were all born in Weston Super Mare:^[8]

When the census was taken in 1881, Eusebius was a retired Baptist minister. He was a widower and lived at 6 Sydenham Tce, in Weston Super Mare with five children.^[9]

Second wife Louisa died during the 1st quarter of 1881. her death was registered at Axbridge.^[10]

Eusebius's third marriage was to Louisa Kate Smith. Their marriage was recorded at Bath in the 2nd quarter of 1883.^[11]

In 1891, Eusebius J. Rodway, 77, (indexed as Eusetius) a retired Baptist Minister, lived at 6 St. John's Terr., with his wife Louisa R., 61, and five other family members:^[12]

Eusebius was 86 years old when he died during the first quarter of 1900. His death was registered at Axbridge, Somerset, (Weston Super Mare is in the Axbridge Registration District.^[13] According to the Probate Calendar, he was of Weston Super Mare when he died on February 25, 1900. his Will was George Christopher Tayler) and Edward Burchell Rodway.
