When Mary Louisa Roe was born on July 20, 1819, her father, William, was 22. She married Joseph Coveney on October 29, 1837 in South Bend, Indiana. They had eight children in 26 years. She died on March 1, 1894 in Buchanan, Michigan at the age of 74 and is buried there.

Louisa was the daughter of William Arm Roe (a local minister) and his wife
Mary "Polly" Martindale. They were married on Dec. 4, 1816 in Wayne County Indiana. Louisa was the second of 13 children and the eldest daughter.
Her parents are buried in the Grant View Cemetery in Greeley, Delaware County Iowa. Louisa (listed as Mary Louisa) married Joseph Coveney on Sept. 4, 1837 in South Bend, St. Joseph County Indiana. (Louisa's parents had lived in German township, near South Bend, in St. Joseph County Indiana).
In 1837, Joseph and Louisa settled in Section 5, in the northern part of
Buchanan township, about 6 miles North of Buchanan, Michigan.
Joseph purchased land from the U. S. Government. in 1839,and again in 1848.
He later owned 600 acres in Sections 5, 6, 7, and 8.There was a lake on his propertyin Section 8, named Coveney Lake.School District No. 4, was known
as the "Coveney School District".(Joseph would let the school teacher
board at his home for free).This school district was organized
on March 1, 1845, to comprise sections4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9.J oseph and Louisa had 13 children:
