Biography

Priscilla Rogers Hill was born about 1705 at Newport, Rhode Island.

FIRST GENERATION.

STEPHEN DECATUR, the founder of the^[1]

Decatur family in America, was by family tradition a native of La Rochelle, France, and entered the French Navy at an early age. When a Lieutenant in the West Indies, he was attacked by the epidemic of the climate, which obliged his removal to a cooler latitude. He obtained leave and went to Newport, Rhode Island; this was about the middle of the century. He was married in Trinity Church, Newport, on September 26th, 1751, to Priscilla Hill, born 1722, baptized 1743, died March 14, 1795, buried in St. Peter's Churchyard, Philadelphia, Pa. She was a daughter of Joseph Hill, whose wife was Priscilla Rogers, died 1756, daughter of Thomas Rogers, died August 22nd, 1736, and Ann Tripp, his wife.

He gave up his allegiance to the French King in 1752, moved to Philadelphia and died soon after, leaving his widow and one child.

Priscilla was born about 1719. She was the daughter of Thomas Rogers and Ann Tripp. She passed away in 1780.
