Biography

This profile describes Amanda Rogers who became the spouse of John Kent. According to the 1850 U.S. census, Amanda was born in Missouri ^[1], however later census records list Kentucky as her place of origin. Her birth date is uncertain, probably in about late 1818 to early 1819 on the basis of the prevailing census records. From those records it is evident that she preferred to be addressed by the name Amanda, however her given name may have been Sarah (uncertain).

Amanda married 24 April 1842 in Adair, Missouri, John D. Kent (1817–1862) ^[2]. Together they had children: James, George, Elmore, Silas and Martha Jane Kent.

During the 1860 census Amanda and John D Kent were living in Adair, Missouri with their children ^[3].

Between that time and the 1970 census there were several changes: John Kent passed away (possibly exigent circumstances from American Civil War), and Amanda Kent married an older man named Jesse Walker, who was born in Georgia. Also, there are two other children, William F Kent and James T Kent living in their household. Also listed is an Annie Rogers born in Kentucky who is probably Amanda's mother along with a George L. Rogers who is unknown ^[4].

Amanda (Rogers) (Kent) Walker passed away in the year 1902. She is buried at Hayes Cemetery, Hayes, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana under the name Amanda Kent ^[5].
