MYTHS BUSTED:

Myth #01 - No historical records show this William Rogers ever migrated from Hampshire Co., VA. to Nelson Co., KY (or anywhere else in KY.) Hampshire Co., VA records show him residing there in the 1790's through at least April 18, 1805 William Rogers Senr of Hampshire, Virginia made William Rogers Junr of Nelson, Kentucky his lawful attorney. [1] And the Nelson Co., KY. tax records from 1792 through 1808 only show one William Rogers in Nelson Co., KY and based upon the 1805 Power of Attorney it was William Rogers, Jr.
Myth #02 - This William Rogers IS NOT the William Rogers who married Sarah Lowe. The William Rogers 1772-1842 who married Sarah Lowe (daughter of William Lowe and Elizabeth Davenport) on the 12 Jan 1791 in Lincoln Co., KY , was the son of William Rogers born 24 May 1748 Culpeper Co., VA. per his Adair County, KY. Revolutionary War Pension Application who married Veletti (Letti) Downing and died 1 May 1835 per the DAR profile. If you check the birth years for the children of William Rogers in this profile you'll find they were born before the 1791 marriage of William Rogers and Sarah Lowe. See:

and search for 'Lowe'.

BIOGRAPHY

The following Hampshire Co. VA. court and land indenture records clearly place the William Rogers in this profile to have been residing in Hampshire Co. VA. in the 1790's:

3 March 1791 Nathaniel Parker of Hampshire County sold 29 acres of land on the waters of Patterson's Creek to David Jones [Hampshire Co., VA DB 8:212]. The land adjoined William Rogers and was part of the tract granted to Mathew Rogers in 1749. John Reed, John Jones Jr. and Abraham Johnson were witnesses to the deed.

Hampshire County, Virginia Minute Book 1788-1791 p 400: Mar 10, 1791: William Rogers did grand jury duty.

Hampshire County, Virginia Minute Book 1795-1798 p 388: Mar 22, 1797: Ordered that William Rogers be appointed overseer of the road in the room of John Rogers dec'd, from Frankfort to Hollowbacks Mill.

Hampshire County, Virginia Minute book 1799-1802 p 133: Jan 20, 1800: On motion of Wm. Rogers he is appointed guardian of Susannah Rogers and Jno. Rogers, orphans of John Rogers dec'd he having complied with the law.

The 1828 Francis and Pamelia (Parker) Duffy family bible (links in Sources) states:

Susana Rogers wife of Thomas Parker was born 11th April 1773; she was the daughter of William Rogers and Sarah his wife. Susana was born in Hampshire County, Virginia.
Susan Parker wife of Thomas Parker departed this life on Wednesday half past 4 o'clock PM 24th Oct 1838, in the 66th year of her age, a perfect model of industry.

Thomas Parker is one of the three eldest sons of Nathaniel Parker of Hampshire, Virginia and later Sumner, Tennessee who married 3 sisters, the misses Rogers. John m. __(Mary?)__; Richard m. Nancy Rogers; Thomas m. Susie Rogers as stated in a 1904 letter as found on page 482 of Parker in America (see sources).

The story of the 3 Parker sons marrying 3 Misses Rogers sisters is repeated in Jay Guy Cisco's 1909 book 'Historic Sumner County, Tennessee.' (see Sources)

The 1885 Ophelia Parker family bible (see Sources) gives the birth and death dates for Nancy Rogers, wife of Richard Parker. It gives the birth date for Nancy Rogers as 30 January 1771

William Rogers, the father of the 3 Roger sisters who married 3 Parker brothers is referenced in an 1818 Nelson, Kentucky court deposition wherein his brother James Rogers age 75 stated that 'William Rogers, who died 7 or 8 years ago was his eldest brother, and that another brother, Jonathan Rogers died in Virginia in 1782. The same court deposition has a confirming statement from Agnes Bailey where she identifies herself as a sister of these 3 brothers, James Rogers, William Rogers, and Jonathan Rogers. (see Sources)

The 1804 and 1805 Nelson County, KY indentures show William Rogers Senr was of Hampshire, Virginia at that time.

1805 and 1808 Nelson Co., KY tax lists only have one William Rogers in Nelson Co., KY. so it appears that William Rogers Sr. never migrated to Nelson Co., KY. It was William Rogers, Jr. who did.

A Nelson County, KY court deposition over land in 1818 James Rogers Sr.,(brother to the William Rogers in this profile) age 75, stated that William Rogers, who died 7 or 8 years ago was his eldest brother, and that another brother, Jonathan Rogers died in Virginia in 1782. There is also a confirming statement by an Agnes Bailey who identifies herself as a sister of these 3 brothers, James Rogers, William Rogers and Jonathan Rogers.
