Biography

John Rogers was born about 1631/2 in England and died 7 May 1717.

That John Rogers of Scituate was son of another John is suggested by the baptism of his son John in 1657, where he (the father) is identified as "John Rogers Jr."[1]
Great Migration Newsletter, also claims that this John was the son of John Rogers of Scituate-- the father having died there about 1661.[2]

John Rogers and Rhoda King were married 8 Oct 1656[3] by Gov. Endicott[4] of Massachusetts, there being no magistrate in Scituate authorized to solemnize marriages at that time.[citation needed]

He took the oath of freeman in 1657, and is often mentioned in the pubic records for nearly sixty years after that date.

Chosen grand juryman 16 May 1659.

He became a Quaker in 1660. Children baptized after this time were done so through their mother's connection to Witherell's parish.

He married Elizabeth ___ about 1662, based on the birth of their first child in November 1663.[3]. TEXT : ROGERS, John (1632-1717) & 2/wf Elizabeth ____ (-1692); 1662/3; Scituate/Marshfield {Rogers (,2) 8, 21, 22; Davis: Anc. of Joseph Neal 44; Bartlett-Jenkins 101}

He was at least twice confronted (1681, 1683) by the constable for not paying taxes to support the pastor. He refused "for conscience sake" and instead had property confiscated.
