Biography

"III. Joseph ROGERS2 (John1). It is not known when or where he was born, but either before his father came to this country or in Scituate; he married Abigail Barker, daughter of Robert and Lucy [Williams] Barker of Hingham (according to the history of that town), but certainly of Duxbury at one time; Joseph2 lived in Duxbury close to the Marshfield line and in that part which became Pembroke; he died in 1716, about June, and she, in 1718, about May." John Rogers of Marshfield page 10

"Marshfield, on July 4, 1670, gave to Joseph Rogers, Sen., of Duxbury, its interest in a certain parcel of land (four or five acres) at Mattachesitt [Namassakeesett]. Town Rec. p. 124." [see Land Grant in Images] John Rogers of Marshfield page page 11.

"The will of Joseph Rogers of Pembroke, d. Apr. 10, 1716, and p. July 16, 1 716, describes him as "aged"; gives to Joseph, his oldest son, his meadow in Marshfield; to his wife, Abigail, land at a place called the cove in Marshfield [see as Cove Creek, North Marshfield] , his home farm, (except a small lot given to his son, John Rogers), his stock, &c., and other real estate ; gives a lot to his son, Thomas, and ten acres to his son, Timothy, lying near that which he already has ; to his daughters, Lydiah and Rebecca, twenty pounds apiece ; to the children of his daughter, Abigail Parrice, deceased, fifty shillings each ; and to his grandson, commonly called Joseph Staples, five pounds. He left the care of his son, Francis, to his wife, and after her death to be maintained by the children to whom his wife should leave the real estate.

He left the bulk of his estate to his wife to be disposed of to his children as she should deem most convenient, but it was his will that if his two sons, John and Thomas "do behave themselves kind and obligeing to their mother during her life, that after her decease all my said housing and lands, meadow and swamp, lying in Pembroke aforesaid shall be left to them." He appointed his wife executrix with his trusty and well-beloved brothers, John Rogers, Francis Barker and Robert Barker, overseers." page 11 John Rogers of Marshfield

There is no source hat i know for the marriage.

On the other hand is there a primary source for Abigail Barker's date of birth?

Is there a source for the estimated marriage date? Seems about 4-5 years too early based on the bride's age and the birth of the first child. FWIW, this marriage is listed by Torrey as:

ROGERS, Joseph (-1716?) & Abigail [BARKER] (-1718?); by 3 May 1677; Duxbury/Pembroke {Bartlett-Jenkins 101; Barker 12, 105; Rogers (#2) 10, 11; Gen. Adv. 2:105; Sv. 1:116; Tingley-Meyers 38; Pope's Pioneers 32; MD 31:102; Davis: Anc. of Joseph Neal 45; Hingham 21}

Rogers-3753 and Rogers-2044 appear to represent the same person because: These two profiles have the same wife. The 1635 birth date is incorrect. 1635 is the birthdate of the Mayflower Descendant named also Joseph Rogers.

Rogers-12074 and Rogers-2044 appear to represent the same person because: Parents fixed on duplicate. No longer attached to fabricated family.

The information for wife of Rogers-2044 needs to remove the Watson, name at bitth, and her parents, She is Frances Unknown.

Needs to be corrected prior to merge.

Based on the death date, I have added the probate file from Plymouth County records which identifies him as the brother of John Rogers, husband of Abigail & father of Joseph, Timothy, John, Thomas, Francis, Lydia & Rebecca (perhaps others, document is torn).

Have edited the birth year as the original (19 Jul 1635) is for a Joseph, son of JOSEPH, not John. Sandwich VRs says "Josepth of Leiftenant Josepth Rogers was born the the 19th of July 1635."

Rogers-2044 and Rogers-14836 appear to represent the same person because: Seem to be the same person.
Rogers-3753 and Rogers-2044 do not represent the same person because: Need some source to show parents before doing merge - there are too many men named Joseph Rogers and as dates for birth, while the same, have so source there is no good reason to say they are a duplicate. (I suspect that date of birth was applied as a convenient match without a source)

Rogers-2044

b 19 July1635 Duxbury and died 1716 Eastham,MA does not seem to be a match, after further search, to Joseph Rogers-12074. Rogers-12074 was of Duxbury/ then Pembroke when he died about June 1716 [see will info] Should this be a rejected match? I will disconnect the two Joseph roger for now. Adrian
