Discrepancy

Name Variations - Betty, Betsey, Denston, Dunston, Dintha Marriage Date Apr 2 vs March 9 1765

Little is known about the early Duncan wives. No original source records have been located to confirm birth or marriage records. It appears that some erroneous information may have been published, and perhaps republished/reported, making the “actual facts” obscure . These dates need further research/clarification before taken as "fact".

Biography

Betsey (Rogers) Duncan is a member of Duncan Clan.

Betsey Denston Rogers was the daughter of widow Catharine Denston (Dintha) Rogers, father unknown. Betsey was born about 1745, exact place and date unknown

Betsey married Marshall Duncan II, son of Marshall and Mary Ann (Durron) in Rowan Co. NC about 1765 (Apr 2 vs. March 9)[1] [2]

In 1768 (tax list), Marshall was in the Town Fork or Upper Dan River District, Rowan Co. NC. He was in Botetourt Co. VA on William Herbert's list of tithables in 1771 as Marchel Dunkam; one Joseph Dunkin was on the same list, as were several of the Rogers family; he was on that list in 1772, but Joseph Dunkin was in Walter Crockett or Capt. Doack's company ("New River Tithables 1770-1773" by Kegley; "VA Gene." Vol. 9 &10, 1965-6).

Betsey died probably in Kentucky before the 1810 Census. Exact date and location are unknown.
