Resided from about 1863 until 1872 at Alma Plains, South Australia, where three children were born.[3]
From 1872 resided at the Bumbunga farm near Lochiel where four further children were born.[3]
In 1895, daughter Harriet died tragically young (in her teens).
From 1898 until the start of WWI, about a dozen grandchildren arrived.
In 1908 a granddaughter, Dolly, was born to the family's housekeeper, who Harriet then raised as a part of the immediate family. Presumably scandalous in it's day, it's hard to find out more on this.[6]
Died 18 January 1933 in Lochiel, SA, Australia.[7][8]
Short obituary published in "Advertiser"on Thursday 23rd February 1933.
Mrs. H. Thurston.
"The death of Mrs. Harriet Thurston at the age of 90, removed one of the oldest residents of Lochiel, where she had lived for 60 years on the farm taken up in its virgin state by her husband. She was born in Wiltshire, England, in 1842, and came to Australia with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Rogers, at the age of 12, in the ship Trafalgar. The family settled at Aldinga, the deceased remaining in the district until she was 21, when she married Mr. Chas. Thurston. The young couple went to Alma Plains where they were employed by Messrs. McLachlan and Wilson. In 1872 Mr. and Mrs. Thurston took up land at Lochiel, where they were among the first settlers. Mrs. Thurston leaves three daughters, Mesdames G. J. Fuller (Yorketown) , H. Adams (Clare), and Miss L. E. Thurston (Bumbunga); and three sons, Messrs. W. J., G. L., and C. H. Thurston (Bumbunga). Her hushand died 40 years ago." [3]
