Biography

Thomas Rogers Jr. Son of Thomas Rogers and Sarah Rogers was born 1688 in Washington, Rhode Island.

He married Anne Tripp in 1713 in Portsmouth, Newport, Rhode Island.

  • 1706-Bought 12 acres in Portsmouth RI, from Peleg Tripp
  • 1709- Bought 10 acres of Samuel Bailey of New Port RI.
  • 1713- Jan 1 sold the 12 acres in Portsmouth to Job Sherman. Wife Anne released her Dower.
  • 1716- Feb 16 30 acres in Newport to Capt. James Clarke, bonded northerly by land of Thomas Rogers Jr.
  • 1724- Feb 1 gives son Job 133 acres in Westerly, for love and affection.
  • 1724- Feb 1 gives son Peleg 167 acres in Westerly for love and affection adjacent to Job's
  • 1735/36- Feb 20 - Will- Codicil - 1736 August 3, Proved 1736 August 30

Extrix Daughter Leah. Overseer, friend John Hoxie. To wife, Anna, all estate, real and personal while widow. To son Peleg, 5 shillings, having had. To son Job, 5 shillings. To daughters Anna George and Mary Richmond, 5 shillings each. To daughter Elizabeth Wheeler, 30 acres To grandson john Mason, son of daughter, Sarah Mason, deceased, 10 acres, he paying 20 shillings each to brothers and sisters, Viz: Robert, Simeon, Margaret, Elizabeth and Sarah. To Grandchildren, children of daughter Ruth Wilcox, Viz: Thomas, Stephen, John and Anna, 5 shillings each. To daughter Leah Rogers, 30 acres. To daughters Priscilla Hill, Rebecca Rogers and Penelope MacKnear, rest of land equally. The codicil gives daughter Elizabeth Wheeler 20, daughter Anna George 15, granddaughter Mary George 5, and to daughter Leah rest of movables. Leah was made sole executrix, her mother who had been named wither as a executrix at first having evidently died. Inventory value 254, 9s. 9d., Viz; Wearing apparel, 10; bible and other books, 10; cash and a bond 43, 10s; Gun 3, 10s., 2 spinning wheels, warming pan, silver spoon, 4 young oxen, 3 cows, 2 yearlings, 8 hogs, mare, etc. (Genealogical Dictionary of Rhode Island)

His inventory was taken on 17 August 1736.

Thomas died August 22, 1736 in Westerly, Rhode Island.
