Biography

Jane was the daughter of Anthony Rogers Sr. and Zilpha Holcomb who came to NB in 1783 as Loyalists, and settled at Cassilis, South Esk Parish, Northumberland County[1] [2]

On 31 Oct 1793, she married George Hubbard, who settled in North Esk[3] [1] [4] [5]. Their children included:

  1. Joseph, who was born in 1794, and married Hannah. They settled in Nelson and Joseph died after the 1861 Census [4] [6][7]
  2. George, born c1799, who on13 Aug 1823 married Catherine McTavish the daughter of John and Elizabeth McTavish[4] [8] [9], and who died in January 1870[10]

George Hubbard Sr died in 1800[4], and Jane remarried Benjamin Appleby, who was also a Loyalist[5][11]. Their children included:

  1. Rebecca, who died 14 Mar 1825[5]
  2. Mary Appleby born c1805, who married John Vye and settled in Nelson Parish[5][12] [13]
  3. William b. c1811, who settled in Nelson Parish, married Jane Redmond (b. 1812, d. 8 Dec 1875), and who died 1858[5] [6]
  4. Jane McCullam born 18 Dec 1814: settled in Nelson Parish[5] [14], who married Henry Vye[12]
  5. Benjamin Davis b. 8 Feb 1817[5] [14], who married Margaret Wanamaker[15]

Benjamin obtained several land grants for himself and his stepsons[16] [17] [18]

Jane died circa 1823, and is buried in the St. James United Church Cemetery in Nelson, New Brunswick[19]
