Antoine Romero migrated from Spain to Louisiana -1778.
Antoine Romero, "Antonio" at birth, was born in Málaga, Spain c.1777. He was about a year old when his family immigrated to the Spanish-ruled but largely French-speaking New World colony of "Luisiana" in 1778.[1]
Antoine's family helped establish the predominantly Spanish-populated, French-speaking town of New Iberia, Louisiana.
Antoine Romero married Marguerite Wiltz on June 13, 1800 in St. Martinville, Louisiana.[2][3]
She must have died, possibly in childbirth, c.1801.
In 1810 he was counted on the census in "Atacapas," Louisiana, with his wife and four sons. His two brothers were living on either side of him, and his father-in-law also lived nearby.[13]
In 1820 he was counted on the census in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana, with his wife, six sons and two daughters.[14]
In 1850 he was a planter in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana with his wife, one son and his children in their household, and another son next door.[15]
Antoine Romero died in New Iberia, Louisiana in 1852.[16]
