Charles is the eldest of 3 sons. His brothers are Israel and Thomas.
He married Clara Louisa Reed October 13, 1900 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania[1]. They divorced May 4,1906. They had no children.
He enlisted December 2, 1903 in the Army under Capt Holley for the 1st Cavalry. He was discharged February 17,1905 at Fort Clark Texas for a disability. Corporal. Very Good.[2][3]

Charles reenlisted under a fake name unbeknownst to his family in WWI. It is only through a friend of his that they learned of it.
Lebanon Hero.
Sergeant Roof/Allen was killed along with 2 others when struck by a bursting shell in France[4]He is buried in the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial in Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France[5].
