His father died when Thomas was aged 2 and on 29 May 1311, custody of his father's estates, as well as Thomas' marriage, was given to William de Sulle (or Sulleye).[4] Thomas proved his age 11 July 1325.[5]

Thomas was Justice of the Peace for Westmoreland. He was commissioner of array for Westmoreland in 1378-1379 and served in the wars in Scotland, being present at the chivauche of Balliol, the siege of Berwick, and served in the campaign after "the affair of Stanford Park".[2] His arms: Or, three water bougets Sable.[6]

He married ________ de Preston, daughter of Sir John de Preston[6] of West-Morchard.[2] The date and place of their marriage is unknown and is estimated.[2] They had at least one son:

Possible other children not named by Richardson include:

  • Peter,[7] who also was a witness at the Scrope vs. Grosvenor trial[6]
  • Margaret, who married Richard Burgh of Cathorpe[6]

Thomas testified at the Scrope vs. Grosvenor trail that he had been in arms for 60 years.[3][6]

Thomas died on 30 November 1390.[2] An Inquisition post mortem by writ dated 6 December 1390 named his kinswoman [granddaughter] Elizabeth aged 25, wife of William de Parr and daughter of his son John, as his next heir.[7][8]
