Biography

1776 Project
Private John Roseberry served with 1st Regiment, Hunterdon County Militia, New Jersey Militia during the American Revolution.
Daughters of the American Revolution
John Roseberry is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A098182.

John served in the American Revolution. His application said he enlisted in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, on September 1, 1776, serving until 1781, during which time he took part in the battles of Princeton and Trenton. He wintered with Washington's Army at Valley Forge and was with the Army when Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown.

After the war, John moved from New Jersey to Greene County, Pennsylvania. He married Florence Cree, daughter of Robert and Janet Cree, probably in Pennsylvania.
The family removed to Mason County, (West) Virginia about 1812. Among their children are:

Served throughout the Revolu­tionary War. In 1784 removed to vicinity of Jefferson, Allegheny Co., PA. 1790 Census, Allegheny Co., PA: Rose­berry, John 1 male over 16, 2 females. Then in 1812, from Greene Co., PA to Point Pleasant, Mason Co., Virginia (Today West Virginia) where he applied for a pension in 1841 at age 79. The application contains an extensive description of his service, including participation in several major engagements, including the Christmas day crossing of the Delaware River with Washington's army and the Battle of Trenton."
