Biography

Mary Elizabeth Ross was born on 5 August 1824 in Baltimore, Maryland to William Gibbs Ross and Mary T. Heisler. She was baptized on 15 August 1824 in St. Peter's Catholic Church sponsored by Margaret Heisler.[1] She married Jeremiah Burman on 23 Sep 1840 in Baltimore.[2] She earned money as a dressmaker and together with Jeremiah she had 6 children: William, Virginia Reed, George, Agnes, Margaret, Mary.[3][4] They lost Willam, a soldier with the Union Army, at the Battle of Antietam on 17 Sep 1862.[5] Margaret died on 16 September 1884 after a month's illness in Baltimore, Maryland of a fever that caused a "heart clot" and was buried in Loudoun Park Cemetery.[6]

Obituary

Baltimore Sun, 1884 BURMAN--Departed this life, on September 16, at half-past three o'clock P.M., Margaret E., aged 60 years, beloved wife of Jeremiah Burman, and daughter of the late William R. and Mary T. Ross. Thy days are completed, thy struggle is done. And oh! can we spare thee, thou long watchful one; Can we breathe without anguish thy form to decay. And now, faithful mother, thou art past away. BY M.T.P. The relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral, from her late residence, No. 56 South Carrollton avenue, this (Thursday) morning, at nine o'clock, thence to St. Peter's Church

Obituary

Baltimore Sun, 1908 MAGAHA--On November 28, 1908, AGNES B., aged 75 years beloved wife of the late Samuel Magaha, and daughter of the late William and Mary T. Ross. (Harper's Ferry and Loudoun county (Va.) papers please copy.) Funeral from the residence of her son-in-law, William Cook, No. 1110 Ridgley street on Tuesday at 8:30 A.M., thence to St. Jerome's Church where a Requiem High Mass will be said for the repose of her soul. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
