Catherine (Katherine) Ross was born about 1720 in East Nottingham Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. According to Find A Grave, Katherine Ross was born in 1724 in Frederick County, Virginia and died 7 December 1748 in Frederick County. It is reported that she died during an outbreak of sickness in the community. She was said to be buried in the Hopewell Friends Burial Ground. I suspect that her death may be confused with that of her mother. Catherine is often referred to as Catherine Hardwick. Perhaps this came from the book, The East Germans of New Jersey by Theodore F. Chambers (1895). He mentions that Samuel Adams and his wife Catherine bought land from James and Deborah Bell, 26 June 1766, in Hardwick, New Jersey, which they mortgaged to John McDowell on 24 October 1766. This would be Hardwick Township in Sussex (now Warren) County, New Jersey.
