Biography

John Ross was born probably between 1780-1790 from census age estimates. DNA has confirmed a kinship of the Ross and the Franks families who were both residing in Laurens Co, SC and enumerated in the 1790 and 1800 census.

In the 1810 census John and wife age 16-25 with one son and one daughter both were living in Laurens, South Carolina.[1]

In the 1820 census John and wife with five children were in Pulaski, Giles, Tennessee. They were living near Thomas J. Franks who is married to Elizabeth Ross, sister of John. Their sixth child was born 1824. [2]

1830 Census - residence unknown at this time

By 1833, John had moved to Greene County, Missouri[3]

John had two daughters and four sons verified in Missouri census -- the two eldest being born in Laurens Co, SC before the 1810 census:

John's wife, Lettice, is enumerated in the 1840 Census of Newton County, and thought to have died shortly after that. Burial is believed to be in the Ross Family Cemetery where John and son Robert are buried in Newton Co, MO.
