James was born on the 27th of July, 1895 to Andrew Ross and Sarah Montgomery in Auckland, New Zealand. James Ross joined the army at age 19 in 1914.
Fought at the Battle of Passchendaele, France in October 1917 when New Zealand lost 800 men.
Demobilised and returned to New Zealand on the 31st of May, 1919.
Became involved with the College Rifles Rugby (Union) Club after the war.
Married Muriel Olliff in 1923.
He passed away in 1970. [1]
