- Benjamin Ross and his wife Mary Ross were first cousins, their fathers David (Ben's father) and James (Mary's father) were brothers.
- Benjamin Ross was David Ross' oldest son. Benjamin is estimated to have been born about 1774, based on his age bracket in the 1790 and 1800 censuses. He married Mary Ross about 1795 in Greenville County, South Carolina.
- Benjamin did not have a will nor was his estate probated; therefore, the following children are presumed to be his, unless otherwise noted:
- Francis L. Ross
- Sarah (Ross) Madole
- Jane (Ross) Alvisson (or Alverson)
- Jesse Ross
- Garland Walker Ross
- Mary (Ross) Radford
