Sometimes referred to as Hugh Murdo Ross, this family came from Tain, Easter Ross, home of the Scottish clan of Ross.

From Clementina Ross Plumstead “I send duplicate with handwriting sworn to; also duplicate of the marriages, all of which I have sworn to ….. “ enclosed with the letter was the following family record copied by Miss Plumstead from the Ross family Bible.
Murdoch Ross, merchant in Tain and Christian Simson were married December 29th 1724 and had issue –
