Mary Lelia Ross was born about 1844 in Nova Scotia. By the age of 20, she only used Lelia as her name. In 1881, she lived with her father and neices Josephine and Helen Howe in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. [1] In 1891, her nieces Josephine and Helen Howe lived with her in Dartmouth. She also had a lodger, Cathcart Thomson, whose wife was also an aunt of the children. [2] In 1916, she was in Lethbridge, Alberta with an adopted daughter, Elinor Scott age 6 who was born in British Columbia. [3] Lelia and Elinor lived with Helen again in 1921. [4]
