SAT ROWDEN

Funeral services will be at 2 o'clock this afternoon in the J. W. Klingner chapel for Sat Rowden, 84, wealthy lawyer, early day merchant and Indian fighter, who died Saturday in a hospital after spending a year and a half in bed with a broken hip. The Rev. W. L. Perryman will officiate and burial will be in Maple Park Cemetery. Mr. Rowden, whose home was at 1721 North Broadway avenue, is survived by the widow, Mrs. Alma Rowden, and a son Miller Rowden, of the United States navy. Mr. Rowden's condition had been serious since Friday. Death was attributed more to old age than the broken hip he suffered in a fall. He was Oklahoma's first U.S. Court Clerk."

From "King's History of Maries County (Chapter 65):

"...serving two terms as Circuit Clerk and Recorder of Maries County he was appointed Territorial Secretary of Oklahoma under Governor Jeff Seay in 1889, a position he held for several years...He was married November 24, 1889, to Alma Miller of California, Missouri..."
