Biography

Birth

When Jennifer Mary Rowe was born in 1814 in Cornwall, her father, James was 44 and her mother, Prudence, was 37. Her brother Cyprian was born in 1820 in Camborne, Cornwall when Jennifer was 6 years old.

She was baptised on 17 Jun 1815, Camborne, Cornwall, England Jenefer ROWE, James Prudence, Illogan, Miner^[1]

Marriage-1

She married William Rowling in 1831.

Immigration: Aboard the Lloyds, departed 11 September 1841, arrived 1842 in Nelson, New Zealand.

Children

They had one son together (William), born in New Zealand.

Her husband (allegedly) departed for South America.But a check on BDM's show he died 28 Feb 1854 in Nelson.A copy of his death certificate gives the cause of death as asthma. 1854/293 Rowling William 46Y Appo Hocton was living next door to William and Jennifer Rawling at the time of William's death, and signed the Entry in the Register recording William's death.

She then married Wong Ah Poo Appo Hoc Ting Hocton (Appo) in 1856. Appo adopted her son, William, and referred to him in his will as "my son, William Rowland Hocton".

Marriage-2

In July 1856 Appo Hocton married his widowed neighbour, Jennifer Rowling (nee Rowe). It is thought that her young son, William, may have been Appo’s natural child. However, an unnamed child was born and registered to Jennifer, died in 1865.

Death

She died on March 10, 1865, in Nelson, at the age of 50. ^[2]

She is buried at Wakapuaka, Nelson, New Zealand.
