Biography

Solomon Rowe was born circ a 1812 or 1813 in Giles County, Virginia. He was the son of Stephen Rowe and Barbara Huffman.

Solomon fought for the Union in the U.S. Civil War in the 39th Kentucky Infantry Regiment, he was a private in Company D.^[2] The 39th Kentucky Infantry Regiment was organized at Peach Orchard in Lawrence County, Kentucky, on November 18, 1862. It mustered in for a three-year enlistment on February 16, 1863, under the command of Colonel John Dils, Jr. Although the regiment was mounted, it was never designated as mounted infantry.^[3] He enlisted as a private on November 26, 1862. His brother Huffman Rowe, his nephews Stephen Rowe and Jake Rowe, and several other close Rowe relatives also fought in Company D. He was mustered out on September 15,1865 in Louisville, Kentucky.

He died in 17 April 17, 1893 (aged 80–81) in Fort Gay, Wayne County, West Virginia, and was interred in Fairview Cemetery in Fort Gay.^[4]
