Note: April 29, 1857, Chauncery Court: William Rowton left slaves to his wife Mary Rowton, who died in 1855. Heirs included: 1. John Rowton (deceased) 2. Elizabeth [Rowton] Hancock 3. Polly [Rowton] Woods (deceased) 4. Oney [Rowton] Walls (deceased) 5. William D. Rowton 6. Peyton Rowton 7. Rhoda [Rowton] Wrather (deceased) Children: C(alenas) M. Wrather; W(esley) S. Wrather and Enoch B. Wrather 8. Nancy [Rowton] Hunt (deceased) children to wit: Houston Hunt, Mary [Hunt} Martin, Mahala [Hunt] Winston, Ryland Hunt, Alexandre Hunt, Rhoda Hunt, and Uriah Hunt.Due to the number of heirs, the slaves were to be sold and the proceeds divided.

John Rowton (deceased) 3. Elizabeth Hancock, wife of Benjamin Hancock, lived in Missouri, 4. Polly [Rowton] Woods (deceased) was wife of Thomas Woods, 5. Oney [Rowton] Walls 9deceased) wife of John Walls (deceased) 6. William D. Rowton 7. Rhoda [Rowton] Rather (Wrather) (deceased), wife of Baker Rather (Wrather), also deceased, leaving following children to wit: W(esley) S. Wrather; C(alenus M. Wrather, and Enoch B. Wrather. 8. Nancy [Rowton] Hunt (deceased), wife of Samuel Hunt, leaving following children to wit: Huston Hunt, Mary [Hunt] Martin, Mahala [Hunt] Winston, Ryland Hunt, Alexander Hunt, Rhoda Hunt, and Uriah Hunt. 13 slaves were divided among the following grandchildren to wit: Enoch Wrather, Louisa Wrather, William Johns, Stegar Wrather and Felix Ross.

Ligon, of Amelia County, £548 for 270 acres in Prince Edward County on Appomattox River, adjoining Cow-Skin Branch, Samuel Poe, William Rowton, said Ligon, and subject to dower of Polly P. Ward, mother of said Josiah Ward which has been laid off for her. Recorded October 1812. (Prince Edward, Deed Book 14, p. 696). This deed mentions the family grave yard.
