Joshua, son of Robert and Elizabeth Rice, was born the 14th day, 2nd month, 1637. [1] Note that the new year began on March 25th, so the 2nd month would be April.
Savage's Genealogical Dictionary reports that Joshua Royce was born 14 April 1637 and baptized 16 April 1637, the son of Robert Royce and his wife Elizabeth. [2]
Accepting Savage's accord that Robert was in Boston as early as 1631, in the absence of evidence to the contrary it should be assumed that Joshua also was born in Boston.
In 1662 he married Bathsheba Pratt.
His father, Robert Royce/Royse/Rice of Boston died before 27 Oct 1668. Reference two deeds[3], by his son Joshua, selling the land of his late father Robert. [4][5] They were presented in 1676, but one is dated from 1668.
The document mentions Joshua's mother Elizabeth Tearn/Tarne wife of Michael, and formerly wife of Robert.
Robert of New London was himself still conveying land in 1670, so obviously was not dead.
The deed, entered in 1676, by Joshua Rice, identifies Michael and Elizabeth Tarn as his parents, and indicates that all three are residents of Boston, Massachusetts in that year. [3]
