In 1871 census he is living in Yarm, Yorkshire with his wife named Elizabeth Royer, stepdaughter Elizabeth Mitchinson and his four children. He is working as a Hardwear Dealer.
[1]
John and Elizabeth were not married at this time and evenually married in 1873
[2]
in Middlesbrough.
[3]
Elizabeth had been married before to Henry Mitchinson who died before the census of 1861. She already had three children
In 1881 the family are living in Linthorpe near Middlesborough and John is not working but he has been a Silk Weaver. He is about 74/78 (transcription error on FS record)

Research Notes
There is a slight doubt about John's four children as John born 1864 and Charles born 1867 where both registered on GRO with surname Mitchinson, but Amelia 1868 and Sarah 1871 were registered as Royer. All of them showed mother's maiden name as Gray. This may just be because they weren't yet married.
There is a lot more to research on John. He has probably been married at least once before he married Elizabeth Mitchinson and likely has other children. There are census records in 1851,
[6]
and 1861
[7]
which may be him, but not yet confident.
