Biography

Ruth was born in 1664. Ruth Rozer ... She passed away in 1712. [1]

Estimated birth date based on probable parents' marriage date of 1670 (probably subsequent to Charles Calvert's return to Maryland before Nov 1670, based on David W. Jordan's article on Charles Calvert in ANB) and probable pregnancy on death of first husband Edward Gaile, before 1 Feb 1685 (date will proven) party to Deed of Sale of "Clarkson's Purchase" with her husband William, to Robert Clarke, 15 Jan 1700 executrix and residuary legatee of third husband Edmund Goodrick, will dated 10 Sept 1710 (p. 234, Vol. III MD Calendar of Wills). *NOTE: Identification as sister of Notley Rozer not proven (cf. Robert Barnes, in communications with John Ravilious). HOWEVER, she was so identified by Harry Wright Newman, a noted genealogist. The circumstantial evidence concerning land transactions, together with the onomastic patterns of naming in the families of Pearce and Clarkson, provide conclusive evidence of the relationship. Statement of William Clarkson in his will re: land bought of 'brother Notley Rozer' does indicate relationship. Other sources have identified the mother of Benjamin Rozer's children as one 'Mary', sometimes ascribed to being the daughter of Thomas Notley [erroneous]. Following is evidence of parentage of childen of Col. Benjamin Rozer (i.e. that Anne, possibly AKA Mary, Sewall was mother of Notley Rozer, Ruth Rozer and other children): from 'Across the Years' by E. G. Bowie - p. 571: 'An interesting indenture (Lib. 15, folio 45, L.O.M.) relates that the Commissioners were to meet at Port Tobacco in the estate of Notley Rozer, orphan of Colonel Benjamin Rozer, late of Charles County, 'to deliver said estate in to the hands of Nicholas Sewall, as next relation, to whom the guardianship doth belong, since Colonel Edward Pye, who married the relict and administratrix of said Benjamin Rozer, has not yet rendered an account of the administration.' from Maryland Historical Magazine, quotation from Mrs. Helen Sprat, a cousin, that Notley Rozer was son of a daughter of Jane Lowe [see note under Notley Rozer; the editor of MHM did not trust this statement as it was an established opinion that another woman was the mother of Notley Rozer]

death place seems odd?

I agree. I believe that this is a vestige of the early online Rootsweb database corruption where a huge number of entries were tagged with Picardie, France.
