Biography

Agnes Rishton was the daughter of Nicholas Rishton and Margaret Radcliffe.[1] She is also known as Agnes Rushton, however Richardson gives her family name as Rishton. Her date and place of birth are not known, the date and place above are estimated.

Agnes married first to ---- Holcroft,[1] date and place unknown. Richardson names no known children.

Agnes married second after 1504 to Richard Worthington of Blainscough, Lancashire, son of Peter Worthington, Esq., and Joan Lowde.[1] They had three children.

  • Peter, born 1514, died 19 September 1577, married Isabel Anderton and had nine children[1]
  • William[1]
  • Margaret, wife of Henry Banaster, Gent.[1]

Richard Worthington died in 1526 and Agnes married third to Robert Bolton of Little Bolton, Lancashire.[1][2] Richardson names no children from this marriage.

The date of Agnes' death is also unknown, however she was living in 1556 when she made a general release of a yearly rent to her eldest son, Peter Worthington.[3]

In an 1870 transcript of the 1567 Heraldic Visitation of Lancashire by William Flower, Agnes is listed by the Rushton family of Donkenhagh as the daughter of Nicholas Rusheton and Margaret Ratclif, "first maryed to .... Holcrofte, and after to ... Worthington of Blainsco, and lastly to Robert Bowlton of Boulton, co. Lancaster."[4] She is additionally named on the pedigree of the Worthington family of Blainscough, as "Agnes, dau. of Henry [sic] Rusheton of Donkenhall, co. Lancaster, gent."[4]

Agnes (Rushton) Bolton appears in Magna Carta Ancestry (vol. IV, pages 368-369 WORDEN) in a Richardson-documented trail between Gateway Ancestor Peter Worden and Magna Carta Surety Baron Robert de Ros. This trail was badged by the Magna Carta Project in 2020 and is set out in the Magna Carta Trails section of Isabel Worthington's profile.
The Magna Carta Project identified this profile in additional trails between Peter Worden and surety barons John de Lacy, Saher de Quincy, Gilbert de Clare, Richard de Clare, and William de Mowbray; however, these trails will remain unbadged until the parents of Christiana de Mowbray are proved.
See Base Camp for more information about Magna Carta trails. See the project's glossary for project-specific terms, such as a "badged trail".
