Biography
Richard was born in the Bahamas on 12 Nov 1831.[1] He was the son of Richard H Russell Sr and Mary Ann Roberts. In 1838, when Richard was about six, the Russell family left the Bahamas and arrived at Key West where they originally settled. It was here, in Key West, that Richard met his wife Catherine Ann Johnson and they married on 3 Jun 1856.[1][2] They had ten children, all born in Key West:[1][3][4][5]
- 1) Catherine Ann b. 31 Jan 1858, d. 10 Mar 1859
- 2) Sarah Ellen, b. 12 Jan 1859
- 3) Amelia Ann, b. 22 Feb 1861
- 4) Emma Louisiana, b. 6 Mar 1863
- 5) Richard Jefferson, b. 5 Feb 1867
- 6) William Henry, b. 4 Mar 1871
- 7) Henry Otis, b. 20 Mar 1875
- 8) Elisa Irene, b. 22 May 1879
- 9) Mary Catherine, b. 22 May 1879, d. 11 Nov 1881
- 10) Mary Louisa, b. 5 Jan 1884
While his parents, brothers and sisters would move to the Middle Keys, Key Vaca [Marathon] before packing up again and moving to the northern end of Upper Matecumbe Key, Richard stayed in Key West where he raised his family.
Richard died on 21 Jul 1899 in Key West, FL.[6]
